Great Solar Eclipse of 1955 is regarded as one of the utmost natural phenomena witnessed by Sri Lankans. Now decades later we are about to have a similar experience on January 15th as the shadow of the moon sweeps across Sri Lanka. This eclipse is visible in its annular state only for the northern regions of Sri Lanka while it’s observable as a partial eclipse in other regions. If you are observing this event we recommend you being inside the southern border of the eclipse. The recommended towns include Jaffna, Kankasanthure, Thalai Mannar, Kalpitiya, Anuradhapura, Anamaduwa and Eppawala. For the city of Jaffna, the eclipse will start at 11.18LT and end at 15.11LT where 13.20LT will be the peak. For other cities in the northern region; these times may differ from few seconds.
